  • If a contractor has little to no experience, or misleads you into believing they are "insurance experts," they can detrimentally ruin your chance at getting a proper restoration of the damages. For instance, if the claim is filed incorrectly from the beginning, it can be detrimental.

If the contractor doesn't document the damages properly, with adequate building code documentation and manufacturer specifications, it can negatively impact the final decision from the insurance carriers.

If a contractor just wants to selfishly hurry up and collect a check, which most do, they will get the claim approved just enough to make the money they desire, but leave you with some of the damages not completely repaired. Yes, you may get the roof repaired or replaced, but what if your siding, gutters, and interior needed to be repaired as well? If the contractor is only a "roofing" contractor, they most likely won't want to do other repairs as they are not equipped with the infrastructure to handle them.

It is crucial to hire a roofing restoration and siding restoration contractor who knows how to properly document, assist, effectively communicate with insurance carriers, and is in the business to serve and not take.

  • Storm insurance, typically offered as part of a homeowners or renters insurance policy, usually covers damage to your property caused by certain types of storms. The coverage can vary depending on the insurer and the specifics of the policy, but it generally includes:

    1. Wind Damage: This typically covers damage from strong winds, including those from hurricanes, tornadoes, and severe thunderstorms. It may include roof damage, broken windows, and fallen trees or debris.

    2. Hail Damage: Storms that produce hail can cause significant damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and siding. This is usually covered under storm insurance.

    3. Rain and Flooding: While rainwater damage may be covered, flood damage is often a separate policy and may require additional coverage. Flood insurance is typically not included in standard storm insurance policies.

    4. Lightning Strikes: Lightning that strikes your property and causes damage, such as starting a fire or damaging electrical systems, is usually covered.

    5. Fallen Trees: If a tree falls on your home or other structures on your property due to a storm, storm insurance may cover the costs of removal and repairs, depending on your policy. Coverage may not extend to tree removal if the tree falls on your yard.

    6. Debris Removal: If a storm causes debris to accumulate on your property (e.g., fallen branches or trees), some policies will cover the cost of debris removal.

However, it's important to note that coverage can vary based on your policy and the specific type of storm. Flooding, for example, is typically excluded from standard homeowners policies, and you may need a separate flood insurance policy.

Always read the terms of your policy to understand the limits and exclusions regarding storm-related damage.

    • Document the Damage – Take clear photos and videos of all affected areas.

    • Contact Your Insurance Company – Report the damage as soon as possible.

    • Schedule an Inspection – An insurance adjuster will assess the damage to determine coverage.

    • Get Repair Estimates – Obtain quotes from licensed contractors to compare with the insurance payout.

    • Make Temporary Repairs – Prevent further damage by covering holes or leaks, but keep receipts for reimbursement.
